What is Walk to Drink?

WALK TO DRINK is a concept designed to help save lives and prevent injuries through doing as much as possible to ensure that a well managed affordable pub or bar can locate in any residential neighborhood. This blog supports our web page which is located here:
http://mysite.verizon.net/cbladey/walktodrink/walktodrink.htm

Today many residential neighborhoods and municipalities ban or make location of well managed affordable bars/restruants either impossible or very difficult.

As a result everyone who resides in these communities is forced to get into a car if they wish to legally and responsibly consum alcoholic beverages.

WALK TO DRINK encourages people to leave their cars behind when going out for a drink. We encourage people to get together to hold events at well managed bars/pubs which are in walking distance and to encourage others to do the same.

Just think....while saving lives people can exercise, stay fit and help reduce the consumption of gasoline and polution.

Can't think of much wrong with that.

Why can't everyone live in a neighborhood where it is safe and convenient to walk to a well run local bar/pub? -Answer? Ask your local officials! Have them make a few zoning changes and get your friends and neighbors out to support the well run pubs/bars in your neighborhood so that they can stay there!

Walk to drink is not an organization....it is a CONCEPT. We see no need for an organization when individuals can organize their own actions and reach out to others. We just make ideas and suggestions available. It does not cost us anything so we do not collect any money.

So there....off you go! Make a difference in this world- Walk when you want to go out to drink and encourage local politicos to make sure everyone can do the same. Spread the word.

All texts and graphics on this blog can be used by anyone any time in support of this concept. You may obtain a flyer here:

Here is the list:

1. O'She's-328 Charles A good downtown style "lawyers" pub style place. Bar tenders are wonderful. You never wait longer than the Guinness takes to be "pulled". Great food menu but beware of the potato wantons icy centers unless you want to cool your drinks. The ruben is great.

2. Marticks- 214 Mulbery (Goiing North on Charles turn left on Mulberry its on the right just by the parking garage). Unique, a wonder, go there, ring buzzer, watch out for the old man, order steamed shrimp and a St. Pauli Girl. Send a message to the old man- "the beans need more cooking" then leave quickly before he gets it.

3. Midtown Yacht Club- 15 East Center St. (going North on Charles turn right. It is on the right. Great beer, wonderful interior. Stick to the peanuts for food, throw shells on the floor. The Murphys is well pulled.

4. The Owl Bar- 1 East Chase In the Belvedere Hotel. (take Charles North turn right on right.) Pretend you are back in time when the bar was more antique. Great beer selection- try the house varieties. Order fries -leave the rest. The trip through the lobby is worth it all. Try to get a glimpse at one of the special rooms with their murals. After a few beers they will come alive-said a friend. I believe!

5. The Brewer's Art: 1106 Charles. (Going north on left) Pretend you are a student and settle into an overstuffed chair and figure out over a few resurrections (beers) how you will manage to be able to live in a town house like this one. Great atmosphere. Belgian ales are wonderful. Rosemary fries great. Desserts very good. After a few brews and you can no longer hear go downstairs because if you go there first you won't hear when you are upstairs.

6.Club Charles- 1728 Charles Street. (Go north on Charles - On the left across from the Charles Theatre. ) Amazingly untouched (yet) by the wrecker's ball of senseless revitalization. Everyone can be their own alternative when they enter there. Try it. Wondrous to be free and to find reasonable prices. Great art on the walls. Sit back and pretend that none of Baltimore has suffered revitalization at all.

Ok that is this year's list- questions? 410-789-0930 cbladey@verizon.net (non profit) Congrats to the winners send in your suggestions for next year. Stay safe-walk to drink!
